Commercial Layer Poultry Farm Investment Prospectus in Aceh Besar

Aceh currently experiences a structural deficit in the supply of commercial chicken eggs. The demand for commercial eggs in the province is estimated between 1.4 and 1.5 million eggs per day. This demand comes from household consumption, the HORECA (hotels, restaurants, catering) sector, the food processing industry, and educational institutions.

Meanwhile, local production accounts for approximately 8,649 tons per year, resulting in an annual deficit exceeding 20,000 tons. As a result, over 80 to 90 percent of Aceh's egg supply is sourced from Medan and Binjai, North Sumatra. This reliance on external supply contributes to price volatility and economic leakage outside the province.

Project Specifications

A proposed investment project involves the construction of a commercial layer poultry farm in Aceh Besar Regency. The project specifications are detailed as follows:

Population Capacity: The facility is designed for 100,000 productive laying hens.

Target Production: The estimated production is 100,000 eggs per day.

Land Requirement: The construction of the farm requires 3 to 5 hectares of land.

Estimated Initial Capital (CAPEX): The required investment is estimated at Rp 30-60 billion for an open-battery system, and Rp 60-110 billion for a closed-house system.

Estimated Payback Period: The payback period is projected to be 3 to 6 years, depending on the cage technology utilized.

A farm with a 100,000-bird capacity in this location would meet approximately 38 percent of the demand within the Banda Aceh-Aceh Besar conurbation.

Location Assessment

Aceh Besar presents several logistical and operational factors for this project:

Market Proximity: The location is within 60 minutes of the primary market in Banda Aceh.

Logistics Chain: The distribution time is shorter compared to the supply route from Medan, which takes over 8 hours.

Institutional Demand: National initiatives, such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, provide institutional demand for local egg production.

Product Attributes: Locally produced eggs offer shorter transport times and can be marketed with Halal and Veterinary Control Number (NKV) certifications.

Infrastructure: The area is supported by the Trans-Sumatra Highway, Malahayati Port, and Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport.
